The Magic of Video Emails

Have you ever received one of those long a** emails that reads more like a bedtime story? You know the kind where the sender seems to have typed their stream of consciousness into an email with no regard for punctuation, flow or (frankly) logic.

Worse: have you ever written one of those emails? 😳

Nobody likes long emails. They’re the virtual equivalent of getting a voicemail from your chatty aunt who doesn’t get to the point until minute eight. We’re all busy. We have things to do, places to be, and Netflix shows to binge. So let me introduce you to my latest obsession: Loom.

Loom is my love language. ❤️ It is THE espresso shot of communication—quick, effective, and gets the job done without making you want to throw your laptop out the window.

Want to know the 6 ways I use Loom to save my sanity? Keep reading!

The life-changing magic of video emails

How I Use Loom to Save My Sanity (And You Should Too)

  1. Project Instructions to My Team or External Vendors

Instead of crafting a three-page email with bullet points, sub-bullet points, and parenthetical asides, I record a Loom video. I share my screen, show exactly what I’m talking about, and explain things in real time. I leave no room for misinterpretation and it takes less than 5 minutes.

  1. Troubleshooting Issues with Customer Service

Ever tried explaining a tech glitch in words? It’s like trying to describe a song without humming. With Loom, I show the issue as it happens. I’ve got my cursor dancing around the screen and pointing out the problem spots. The person on the other side of the screen understands me perfectly, and I get my solution faster.

  1. Tutorials for Clients

Instead of writing a step-by-step guide (that no one reads), I record a tutorial. I walk my clients through the tools and assets I share with them. They can watch, pause, and replay as needed. It’s like having me there with them, anytime, anywhere and on-demand.

  1. Giving Feedback

Need to provide feedback on a document, design, or website? Record your screen and talk through your thoughts. Your tone comes through, so there’s no risk of your “constructive criticism” sounding like an attack.

  1. Onboarding New Team Members

Create a series of Loom videos to explain your company processes, tools, and expectations. New hires can watch and re-watch until they get it. You save time, and they get a consistent onboarding experience.

  1. Collaborating on Projects

Share ideas, progress updates, or revisions through Loom. It keeps everyone on the same page without endless email threads. You can even use Loom for brainstorming sessions and capturing spontaneous ideas as they come.

Do you see ALL the possibilities and all the hours of wasted typing time you can reclaim by using Loom videos instead? (Not an affiliate link. 😉)

Try it out. Make a video, send it off, and watch how much smoother everything runs. Soon, you’ll be declaring Loom as your love language too.
